Sam the dog who loves to put his head in books!
About me.
I am a freelance illustrator with a background in animation. My interests lie in folklore and storytelling, I have a great love of books and nature and like to create work that reflects that. I predominantly work in pencil and charcoal, and like to focus on form and enjoy hiding extra things in my drawings so that each time you look at them you can find other aspects to add to the story.
I studied Animation at Bournemouth Arts University (2009-2012). Growing up in rural North Yorkshire I spent my childhood outside roaming the beautiful countryside unless the weather was too bad (which is regularly in these parts) when I would retreat inside to devour our family's extensive book collection. I was brought up to have a healthy respect for books, not just the stories they contain but the beautiful objects themselves and especially the wonderful illustrations they contain.
After completing my degree my call to books and stories grew, along with my call to return north, to home. I moved home and started to create work that fed my storytelling desire. While I still love animation and like to keep my finger on the pulse, teaching Stop motion, my work now tends to focus around pencil drawings. I love drawings that make you want to keep looking at them, people like Arthur Rackham, Brian Froud and Alan Lee inspire me greatly, each time you look at their work you see something new.
When not drawing I like to roam the woods near where I live with my gorgeous (if slightly crazy) dog, Sam, or can be found sewing, dancing or doing Yoga as I am training to be Yoga instructor.
