Teaching yoga at Karkeri School, Rajasthan, India

Teaching yoga is one of the best decisions I ever made. I am so lucky to be surrounded by incredible yoga students who’s company in class makes me enjoy my job more than I ever thought possible. It is a pleasure and an honour to teach yoga and I can not wait to meet more students and spend a lifetime growing as a teacher and a student.

About.

I am a yoga teacher and artist from North Yorkshire.

I have grown up with yoga in my life, having parents who practiced. As a teenager and young adult I used to dance and saw yoga as a wonderful way to aid that.

However it wasn’t until I came home to North Yorkshire in 2012 after getting my degree in Animation from Bournemouth Arts College that I properly brought a regular yoga practice into my life.

Yoga has helped me in so many ways in my life. Emotionally and physically.

I trained with the British wheel of yoga and teach Hatha yoga though have an interest in many different styles and so incorporate lots of other traditions into my teaching. I am a big believer in taking yoga into your everyday life.

Yoga translating as “to yolk” or “unity” is the practice of connecting the mind, body and soul. Hatha Yoga is all about balance, Ha meaning sun and Tha meaning moon, the balance of masculine and feminine, the balance of day and night, the balance of mind,  body and spirit. It is a wonderful practice for all levels. When I teach, I incorporate a balance between pranayama (breathing) asana (postures) and meditation.

I have also trained in a method called Sound Moves Yoga, with Noah McKenna. This uses resonant frequency breathing to aid the nervous system while practicing.

As an artist my interests lie in folklore and storytelling, I have a great love of books and nature and like to create work that reflects that. I predominantly work in pencil and charcoal.

I studied Animation at Bournemouth Arts University (2009-2012). Growing up in rural North Yorkshire I spent my childhood outside roaming the beautiful countryside. I was brought up to have a healthy respect for books, not just the stories they contain but the beautiful objects themselves and especially the wonderful illustrations they contain.
